Ah. My blog has been neglected. At least this one. I've been involved in the micro-blogging world of Twitter and the social networking sphere of Facebook. We all have so much to say. Some of our voices are heard, some not. But we live in America and we have the freedom to be, to say, to do.
Today we are celebrating the life of the patron saint of Ireland and his missionary work. I'm not sure how this celebration devolved from a religious holiday to a day of drunken revelry imbibed with four-leaf clovers, cute leprechauns, green-dyed beer, and the wearing of the Green. Probably, the same way the secular Easter celebration is all about lillies, cute bunnies, egg hunts, and the eating of the Peeps. However, whether one celebrates the religious or secular aspects of these holidays, or both, we have to all remember that we have the freedom to celebrate or not. And isn't it wonderful to be able to choose to celebrate these holidays in whatever manner we choose: to honor St. Patrick for the work he did in dedicating his life to spreading the Gospel, or to have fun and watch parades and eat corned beef and cabbage and Irish Soda Bread?
